*The following expert hoax
debunking sites are extensively cited herein.
Much
of the information presented and linked here has been researched
by the U.S.
Department of Energy's CIAC Division and reported on their Hoaxbusters web site. As CIAC seems to prove by it's involvement,
the U.S. Government is concerned that hoaxes at least somewhat
interfere with the smooth operation of government.
The
extensive research by snopes.com creators, Barbara and
David Mikkelson, is cited and linked throughout. Snopes.com lists
specific sources for each report, and ranks each legend as "true",
"false", or "undetermined or ambiguous". Snopes.com
has proven it's credibility to be beyond reproach.
About.com, the site that seems to know everything
about everything, and TruthOrFiction.com have also been extensively
quoted and linked to.
Other
sources include the U.S.
Secret Service,
Scam-o-Rama.com, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, the National Center for Missing & Exploited
Children,
the FDA Center
for Devices and Radiological Health, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Americas Most Wanted, National Fraud Information Center, QuackWatch, and the New York City Police Department.
